On The Road

The way we drive is a symptom of the way we live. Too fast. But your car is the perfect place to practice slowing down. Not only is driving at the right speed more relaxing, its safer, better for the environment and generally cheaper on fuel. Oh, and it’s also the law, but we do want to help so here’s how to enjoy the ride.

The Nilsson Power Model

In research applied around the world, Nilsson (2004) proved that there is a clear relationship between changes in mean speed and crash outcomes. The Nilsson model shows a 5% increase in mean speed leads to around a 10% increase in all injury crashes and a 20% increase in fatal crashes. Similarly, for a 5% decrease in mean speed, there are typically 10% fewer injury crashes and 20% fewer fatal crashes.
